Howdy, Jiu-Jitsu Fam!

Competitions teams, open mat, and bears—OH MY!

COMPETITION TEAMS

We’ve been discussing competition for a while now and several of you have expressed an interest in getting started.  So, give us a shout if you’re interested and we’ll get you added to the roster.  We are going to establish teams for both adults and kids, so parents are encouraged to have a conversation with their children about competing.  A list of “nearby” competitions has been compiled and can be found right over here—> https://www.gbbhamusa.com/2023-competition-schedule/

We would obviously like to take the entirety of both teams to every competition, but cost and time are going to be a factor, so we will be having discussions over the next few weeks about which competitions we’d like to focus on.  Should you decide to compete at any of the listed competitions that aren’t on the team’s radar, let us know and we will make sure that one of us is there to coach you.

With competition comes the necessity of preparation.  We will be looking to incorporate one to two competition classes throughout the week.  This will likely be one evening class, and possibly a second class on Saturdays following open mat.  If you intend to compete, it would be in your best interest to attend each comp class.  White belts, with fewer than three stripes, who intend to compete will be permitted to participate in the comp classes, and we will of course eat them—teach, we will teach them, is what I meant to say 😉

THE THIRD SATURDAY

That heading might be a bit ominous, mayhaps imparting a sense of foreboding, but the world isn’t ending as we know it—at least not that we know of.  We just wanted to let everyone know that open mat on the third Saturday of every month will be Women’s Only, and open to any woman or girl who practices Jiu-Jitsu.  If the fellas have their hearts set on open mat on those Saturdays, they might be able to bribe Josh with some tacos or carnitas to hang around afterward and keep open mat going for everyone.

OPEN MAT, GENERALLY

We have open mat every Friday at 11:30 AM and every Saturday at 11 AM.  Every student, regardless of age or rank, is welcome to attend open mat sessions.  These are great opportunities to get to know your team members, drill techniques, and get some rolls in.

6 AM CLASSES

Moving forward, we will be requiring anyone who intends to attend the 6 AM classes to book those classes no less than 24 hours in advance.  We require at least two students to attend in order to run a class, and a number of you have come for class only to have to go home because no one else showed up.  If you book one of these classes, we need you to attend as other students will be operating off of your having booked the class.  If the required number of students aren’t booked in for the class, it will not run.  The booking requirement only applies to the 6 AM classes.

Have a wonderful afternoon and we’ll see you in class!
