Lance is perhaps not what you would expect out of a top-shelf competitor.  At 36-years-old, Lance is on the older side of the spectrum for those seeking to enter the competitive Jiu-Jitsu scene.  Humble, in every respect, he lacks the flare and swagger of younger competitors.  With less than a year of formal Jiu-Jitsu instruction, however, Lance Kennedy became Gracie Barra Birmingham’s first Pan American Champion in a spectacular 3-0 win over his opponents.

On the mats, Lance is a gracious partner.  He is supremely unselfish with both his knowledge and his time.  It is not uncommon to find Lance sitting cross-legged on the mat engaged with other students seeking to improve their game.  Without question, Lance has become a yardstick at GBBHAM—a measure for students and would be competitors as they navigate their respective roads.

It was no surprise that Lance—humble, gracious, and unassuming—methodically picked apart his opponents to bring home gold.
